Getting From Chicago to Champaign

Champaign, Illinois is just under 150 miles southwest of Chicago. The drive takes about two to three hours, depending on traffic. Limited flights are available, but taking the train or bus  is much, mush cheaper and nearly as fast.

American makes the one hour direct flight between Champaign and Chicago, but given the high prices it’s not the best option.

Trains
Amtrak runs several daily trains between Champaign and Chicago. The ride is quick and cheap, often priced between around $15 each way.

Journey time: About 2 hours.

Bus
Megabus makes multiple runs between Champaign and Chicago each day. If you buy in advance, you can get a seat for less than $20 each way.

Journey time: About 2.5 hours.

Driving
The drive between Chicago and Champiagn is only 150 miles, but you’ll hit traffic coming into or leaving the city so it could take longer than expected depending on the time of day.

Journey time: 2-3 hours depending on traffic.
