Traverse City

Located at the northwest tip of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, Traverse City is about five hours from Chicago and makes a great weekend getaway from the city.

With miles of white sand beaches that lead into the crystal clear waters of Lake Michigan, it’s a summer playground for families and a popular vacation stop for boating enthusiasts. But the area has so much more to offer as well.

Nearly 30 wineries dot the Leelanau and Mission peninsulas while several breweries create unique beers downtown. There’s a growing foodie scene in the area, with creative chefs focusing on using only the best local ingredients. And while the crowds disappear come winter, the fun doesn’t stop, as locals keep busy with skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling over the snowy landscape.
